Fresh, Healthy and Delicious Cuisine at Neehee’s Indian Vegetarian Street Food
Looking for a deliciously different alternative to the restaurant scene? Neehee’s at 45656 Ford Road in Canton offers a unique taste of Indian Street Food, vegetarian style! This bright orange and yellow restaurant has a great ethnic vibe for healthy, fresh and flavorful food.
Owner Rikesh Patel explains that Indian Vegetarian Street Food is a step up from the traditional American hot dog vendor. “In India there is a large vegetarian population, and traditionally workers would be looking for a nutritious, high protein meal to get them through the day,” explains Patel.
Patel introduced the concept here in the Detroit area back in 2003 while selling it out of his Indian grocery store. “There wasn’t any place around here that offered it,” says Patel. Indian Vegetarian Street Food was a hit at the store, so with his brother Vrijesh as his partner, Patel opened Neehee’s in 2008.
On the menu are items such as “chaat”, which is defined as a savory Indian snack. One of the more popular chaat items is the chole bhature, which is a spicy blend of chick peas served with deep fried bhatura, an Indian bread. Its taste is almost reminiscent of a vegetarian chili.
There is a variety of sandwiches including the popular Bombay Veggie Club Sandwich. A combination of beets, tomatoes, potatoes and cucumbers are layered with cheeses and chutney for a mouth-watering experience!
The flavors of Indian Vegetarian Street Food reflect the different cultures and regions of India, as does Neehee’s menu. These delicious items range from soups and sandwiches to full dinners made with beans, vegetables, and Indian spices. There are even Indian Chinese offerings, including rice and noodle dishes.
Neehee’s is fresh and nothing is ever made from frozen ingredients. In fact, the only frozen item you’ll find is their delicious homemade ice cream, made “old-fashioned” style, with ingredients like fresh rose milk, exotic fruits, pistachios, and falooda seeds, which promote good digestion.
