I am a scientist, a Cancer Researcher to be precise. I don’t know whether that might have influenced my artistic attempts, but I undoubtedly know that my inclination for things artistic has tremendously shaped my career in science. To this very day, I still wonder what my life would have been like, have I not resisted for so long the urges to paint and have I kept the flame kindled. Painting is a long-lost first love, one that I recently found, while dealing with the frustrations inherent to scientific research.
Walking an edge between abstraction and figuration, my art work is an attempt to reconcile freedom and meaning. Mine is most certainly a work in progress, learning to talk anew after a long silence.
I am mainly interested in the human condition, and what it means and how it is shaped by modernity. Having lived in four different countries and three continents, I have seen firsthand that no matter our origins or cultures, we share fundamental attributes of “humanness”, especially when we deal with aspirations, hopes, fears, anxieties, love, loss, longing for dignity, freedom and meaning etc. It is that deep humanness and how it copes with contemporary challenges that I am interested in exploring.
